A Successful Poker Evening

8th print from William Blake's Illustrations o...Image via Wikipedia
Big thanks to Anita and Peter for hosting a wonderful evening of Gospel fellowship and fluttering of the cards.

Paula stored up quite of lot of good karma for the future, I think. Why hast thou forsaken me? she asked the Kings and Aces. And they called her Lady Job and promised to do better by her next time.

I was much impressed by Joe's commitment to dispensing with any of the social graces that stood in the way of his acquiring heaps and heaps of chips. There were moments in last night's game during which I thought I was plunged into an outtake from Jaws. (I mean, imagine Dante's Inferno with Sarah Palin as your guide.)

But no more discouraging words. After all, I made a good start on one of my New Year's resolutions, viz., drinking my way through Peter's liquor cabinet. As the night progressed, his facial expression went from ashen to stricken, or so it seemed through the bottom of my glass. (Alcohol: When it comes to conscience, the perfect solvent.)

Here's a proposal, either 2/5 or 2/12 (both  Saturdays) for a rematch here at "the Robertsons." We may not have much of a liquor cabinet, but my recipe for Purple Jesus is much loved.

I'll be starching my loincloth.
